Identity document
Scan your ID card or passport for an application
An ID card or passport is needed for almost every visa and administrative file. The office needs the photo, the document number and the dates sharp, and IDs are the hardest documents to photograph well because the laminated surface throws glare. Below is what matters and how to scan one cleanly.
What matters for an ID
- Both sides of an ID card
- Scan the front and the back separately, each as a full, complete page.
- The passport photo page
- For a passport, the photo, the number and the machine-readable lines must all stay sharp.
- No glare on the surface
- Tilt the card slightly and use soft, even light. The laminate and hologram reflect badly under a direct light.
How to scan it
- Lay the page flat
- Put the document on a flat, evenly lit surface, with no folds and no shadow across the page.
- Capture the whole page
- Frame the entire document with a small margin. Nothing cropped, nothing cut off.
- Let PhotoToScan clean it
- Upload the photo. Shadows, glare and skew are removed, and the page is cropped and straightened.
- Download and submit
- Download a clean JPG or PDF and upload it to Campus France or your consulate file.
